This part-time position includes the following schedule:

Monday

Syracuse Office

7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Tuesday

Syracuse Office

8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Thursday

LaFayette Office

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Friday

Syracuse Office

8:00 AM – Noon

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Some Saturdays
  • One on-call weekend each year

Responsibilities

The Optometrist will provide comprehensive primary and medical eye care while working collaboratively with the practice’s ophthalmology and optometry team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations
  • Diagnose and manage glaucoma
  • Diagnose and manage diabetic retinopathy
  • Diagnose and manage macular degeneration
  • Diagnose and treat dry eye disease
  • Diagnose cataracts and additional ocular conditions
  • Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses
  • Evaluate refractive conditions
  • Diagnose and manage eye infections and inflammatory conditions
  • Utilize OCT imaging
  • Perform visual field testing
  • Review fundus photography
  • Utilize corneal topography
  • Perform pachymetry
  • Co-manage cataract surgery patients
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists for surgical co-management
  • Educate patients regarding treatment plans and eye health
  • Document patient encounters accurately using the electronic medical record system
  • Collaborate with technicians, opticians, and administrative staff
  • Refer patients appropriately when specialty care is required
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance
  • Participate in continuing education
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-focused care during every visit

The practice utilizes modern diagnostic equipment to provide comprehensive eye care, including:

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Visual Field Testing
  • Fundus Photography
  • Corneal Topography
  • Pachymetry
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

These technologies support the diagnosis and management of complex ocular diseases while allowing providers to practice at the highest level of optometric care.


Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution
  • Active New York State Optometry License or eligibility for licensure
  • Previous optometric experience required
  • Excellent clinical judgment
  • Strong diagnostic skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with EMR systems preferred
  • Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment preferred
  • Interest in medical optometry and surgical co-management is highly desirable
  • Professional references required
